G'day all, I'm Simon Angus.

I'm working at the Dept of Economics, Monash University, Melbourne. My background is in engineering/chemistry, and have continued to be fascinated by self-organizing systems -- then studying self-organizing polymer membranes, and now, studying self-organizing/endogenous network formation processes in human interaction networks. This means working in game theory, graph theory, and computational modelling of human behaviour -- specifically trying to ask, What is the outcome of a system of interacting individuals who are able to change their interaction environment themselves? Follow the link below for more info on this, including my recent PhD dissertation on the topic.

I'm currently working on endogenous network formation in economics amongst other things. How do individuals form networks? How do network structures that we observe in real life (e.g. power-law degree distributions, small-world characteristics) come about? What effect do such network structures have on individual behaviour? Since these systems are complex (many agents, non-linear interactions, phase-change time-series dynamics) I've been using complex systems approaches to understand and model their behaviour.

Looking ahead, I'm set to teach an `everything' subject (real name `Prosperity, poverty and sustainability') and have a (re-)growing interest in complex systems approaches to economic development. In that light, I'm looking forward to getting stuck into some grand challenges at Kioloa, especially those that have both socio-economic and physical-systems underpinnings.

See you there!
