G'day! I'm Alex Ryan.
Although my background is in Applied Mathematics, I've spent the last nine years as a defence scientist working in multi-disciplinary teams to solve complex problems. My PhD thesis sprawled across complex systems engineering, agent based modelling, information theory, emergence, the history of the systems approach and the philosophy of representation. I currently lead the land systems long range research in complex systems, I am the Australian National Leader on the TTCP international action group on Complex Adaptive Systems for Defence, and I have lectured at the School of Advanced Military Studies in the US on Complex Adaptive Systems and Emergence. I think this workshop is a great idea, and subject to being in Australia in November, I will be attending this event.
