Kioloa08-New energy systems working group
From COSNet
| Mind Games at Kioloa 2008 |
Suggested membership and subtopics
- Cormac Corr Australia's role in the hydrogen economy
- Frank Detering Applying complex systems approaches to physics research
- Matthew Hole Australia's role in the magnetic confinement approach to fusion power
- Mathew McGann The student perspective
recommended reading; hot, flat and crowded, Thomas Friedman
First session
- Use of existing infrastructures to build energy (conducting painting on roads, use of cars weights in parkings)
- New needs of energy are created as much as ways of getting more energy are deployed (TV example : screens are getting bigger)
- Cultural habits to change : big houses fully heated or air conditionned and not well isolated)
- Use of sensors to regulate usage.
- Energy equity : how to get everyone embrace the cost of saving energy. Government has to be involved ?
- distributed sources of energy. Thinking locally
Second session
- Define a corresponding environmental cost to be able to optimise the system into the economic context : full economic, social and environment cost
- broadening the full life cycle cost into the economic side of the design.
- Confidence of people into evolution of technologies : governments have to start while technologies are expensive to develop them and make them cheaper
- broader than a technology problem such as global resources management, climate adaptation ...
