From COSNet

Jump to: navigation, search

Most COSNet Nodes have generic, typically quasi-geographical (Australian States) names to allow for expansion to institutions not in the original ARC proposal. Some Nodes might evolve to interest-based nodes, though there is a role for geography in, eg, setting up seminar series. Some Nodes are also hubs linking COSNet into other networks, such as those of the two ARC Complex Systems Centres, MASCOS and ACCS, and the two Australian research organizations, CSIRO and DSTO. There is also the International Node, for overseas members.

Each Node has a Node Coordinator, who represents their constituents on the COSNet Management Committee (MC). Alternate Node Coordinators stand in for the Node Coordinator at MC meetings if the Coordinator can't make it. Alternates should be separate from the Node Coordinator, geographically and/or by discipline, so as to increase the breadth of representation of different interests across the Node.

The concept of Node is evolving, and this Wiki provides you with the opportunity of helping define the role of the Nodes in general through the discussion page, and also adding content for your particular Node (such as a link to your group, a seminar series, and more ...?)
